On April 22, 2026, The Konsorsium Bioteknologi Indonesia (KBI) held a strategic virtual meeting with the Malaysian Society for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MSMBB) to explore potential bilateral partnerships in the advancement of life sciences. The discussion aimed to align the strengths of both organizations to foster research, education, and industrial growth within the ASEAN region.
About MSMBB
Founded in 1988, MSMBB is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting communication among scientists and contributing to the advancement of molecular biology, cellular biology, and biotechnology in Malaysia. Under the current leadership of President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Boon Chin, the society actively promotes collaboration in research and training across the Asia-Pacific.

The meeting was attended by prominent representatives, including Dr. Wahyu Purbowasito (BSN), Prof. Puspita Lisdiyanti (BRIN), and Prof. Yekti Asih Purwestri (UGM) from KBI, alongside the MSMBB executive council. Several priority areas for collaboration were identified:

Upcoming Event: ICMBB 2026
A highlight of the discussion was the 9th International Conference on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (ICMBB 2026), scheduled for July 14–16, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur. The conference, themed “Transdisciplinary Innovation: Advancing Science Through Responsible Use of AI for Human and Planetary Well-being,” will be hosted in collaboration with UCSI University.
