TANGERANG, April 17, 2026 – The Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium (KBI) marked its continuous commitment to the national science landscape by participating in LabIndonesia 2026 at ICE BSD City. As one of the most anticipated laboratory technology exhibitions in the region, the event served as a strategic platform for KBI to bridge the gap between innovation and practical application.

KBI’s presence at Booth 6A29 was further strengthened by the collaborative support of its institutional members, Watson-Marlow Indonesia, PT Ecosains Hayati, and the Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology (MRIN). Their contributions to the booth’s setup allowed KBI to provide a professional space for networking, where visitors could also access official brochures from both supporting institutions to learn about their latest advancements.

LabForum: Harmonized Biosafety and Smallholder Impact

On the third day of the event, KBI organized a specialized LabForum seminar themed “Harmonized Biosafety Assessment and Sustainable Agriculture: Accelerating Innovation with Impact for Indonesian Smallholders.” The session, held at Room B, Hall 6, was opened with a keynote remark by Dr. Wahyu Purbowasito Setyo Waskito, M. Sc., President of KBI, who highlighted the urgency of standardizing biosafety protocols to support local farmers.

The seminar featured insightful presentations from two distinguished speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Bambang Prasetya, M.Sc. (Chairman of the Indonesia Biosafety Committee, BRIN): He addressed the critical need for “Strengthening Biosafety Assessment for Accelerating Innovation,” focusing on data transportability and conformity assessments based on international standards to streamline the regulatory process for GMOs.

  • Desi Utami, S.P., M.Env.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of Agricultural Microbiology, Universitas Gadjah Mada): In her talk, “Communicating Biotechnology in the Digital Era,” she emphasized utilizing social media and digital platforms to foster trust and ensure that sustainable agricultural technology effectively reaches and benefits Indonesian smallholders.

Full presentation materials from the seminar can be accessed and downloaded here.

KBI wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the LabIndonesia organizers (Informa) for their regular invitation and to CropLife Indonesia for their invaluable support in organizing this LabForum event. We also extend our deepest thanks to the speakers for their expert insights and to all the visitors of Booth 6A29 for their enthusiastic participation. KBI remains dedicated to empowering the Indonesian biotechnology community through continuous collaboration.
