Tangerang, March 14, 2026 – The Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium (KBI), in strategic partnership with Lab Indonesia, is pleased to announce an upcoming LabForum titled “Harmonized Biosafety Assessment and Sustainable Agriculture: Accelerating Innovation with Impact for Indonesian Smallholders.” The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City.

As global agricultural demands shift toward more resilient and eco-friendly practices, the necessity for a streamlined biosafety framework has never been more critical. This forum aims to address the pivotal role of harmonized biosafety assessments that align with international standards. By fostering a transparent and scientifically sound regulatory environment, Indonesia can more effectively integrate biotechnological innovations into its national agricultural strategy.

The forum will feature distinguished experts and leaders within the biotechnology and agricultural sectors:

  • Opening Remarks: Dr. Wahyu Purbowasito Setyo Waskito, M. Sc., President of KBI, will inaugurate the session.

  • Keynote Presentation: Prof. Dr. Bambang Prasetya, M.Sc. (Chairman of the Indonesia Biosafety Committee and Senior Researcher at BRIN) will discuss “Strengthening Biosafety Assessment for Accelerating Innovation: Harmonization of Data Transportability and Conformity Assessment based on International Standards.”

  • Industry Perspective: Representatives from CropLife Indonesia will present on “Sustainable Agriculture Impact to Smallholder Farmers in Indonesia,” focusing on the socio-economic benefits of biotech for local growers.

The event is open to researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals interested in the future of Indonesian agriculture. Registration is free of charge and can be completed online via this form. For further inquiries, participants may contact Sara Wijayanti at +62 813 8304 1682.

The discussion is designed to facilitate a high-level dialogue between regulators, academics, and industry players. The primary goal is to ensure that biotechnological advancements do not remain confined to laboratories but are translated into tangible benefits for Indonesian smallholders, enhancing food security and farmer livelihoods.

KBI remains committed to bridging the gap between scientific innovation and practical application, ensuring that Indonesia’s biotechnology sector continues to thrive under a robust and harmonized safety framework.
